Community Inclusion Services
Being a part of a local community develops a sense of belonging and purpose. This belief is the foundation of the longest standing, most far reaching and continuously updated service offered by SVS, Community Inclusion Services or CIS. Offering opportunities to experience a wide range of activities aimed at promoting independence, self-advocacy, community integration, self-discovery, career exploration and socialization in the community is what we strive to offer every person we serve.
Encouraging personal choice and unique interests promotes self-worth, dignity and positive choices. We believe that growth is most easily attained when it comes from experience and exploration. SVS staff assists in the development of activity schedules that support each person’s unique interests.

While the bulk of our services occur in the broader local community, SVS provides safe, beautifully designed, and convenient facilities for day programs use when appropriate.
Career Exploration
Making career choices can be overwhelming, yet having a clear picture of employment expectations is key to a perfect job match that is fulfilling and highlights personal strengths. SVS Career Exploration Services acts as a support that propels a discovery process defining duties and expectations associated with different types of work and industries so they are no longer a mystery.
Trained and enthusiastic SVS staff guide individuals through an assessment process that highlights their strengths, interests and expectations helping them to find the best job match possible. Participants in this program have the following opportunities:
- Explore various occupations that are of interest to them.
- Learn the requirements of those various occupations.
- Assistance by trained staff in gaining the skills to meet those requirements.
- Paid work experience
Meaningful, individualized activities are developed to facilitate readiness and informed choice. Solid information and support can lead to obtaining and retaining a job in a chosen field. Areas of activity that may be offered to assist with successful movement to employment include:
- Resume writing
- Professional communication
- Grooming and proper work attire
- Interviewing skills
- Self-advocacy on the job
